Facial Treatment FAQs

Q: Will I break out after a facial?

A: Breakouts rarely occur unless your skin is congested with blackheads or whiteheads underneath your skin. If this is your situation, you may experience some breakouts, but be assured they won’t last long.

Q: How often should I have a facial?

A: We recommend a facial every 3-5 weeks. At this frequency, we can monitor your skin throughout the seasons and help you maintain a healthy and glowing complexion. However, if you are under a lot of stress or experiencing menopause, your skin can be unpredictable and breakout. Your esthetician may recommend more frequent visits until the problem is under control. We welcome you to Rumor Has It Day Spa for short 30-minute facials and hour-long treatments.

Q: At what age should people start receiving regular facials?

A: We suggest facials start in clients’ 20s to early 30s unless you are experiencing breakouts at an earlier age. We believe in early skin care education as many teenagers suffer from problem skin that is best addressed early on. Visiting an esthetician can help treat and correct the problem.

Q: Are scrubs bad for my skin?

A: Some scrubs can be bad for your skin, especially scrubs with shell-type particles like almond or apricot kernels. These contain jagged edges and can actually harm the skin. Most professional exfoliation solutions contain round spheres that will exfoliate your skin without any harm.

Q: Is there anything I can do to help my brown spots?

Hyper-pigmentation can occur after sun exposure, pregnancy or taking birth control pills. Yes, there are many treatments available like peels and microdermabrasion along with home care programs that will help lighten your pigmentation.

Q: What’s the best way to prolong my facial?

A: We recommend being diligent with your home care program like cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing and protecting. This will help your skin function properly and look its absolute best.

Q: How soon will I start seeing results from my facial?

A: Some people see results immediately and your skin should feel different right away. If your skin has more advanced, long-term needs such as skin aging, acne or hyper-pigmentation caused by hormonal fluctuation or sun damage, your results may not be immediately visible. However, skin health will continue to improve as you follow the advice of your professional skin therapist and continue your home care regimen.

Q: What are the long-term benefits of getting regular facial?

A: Plain and simple: healthy skin! Rumor Has It Day Spa chooses skin products that are designed to help keep skin at an optimal level of fitness, not just cover up with cosmetic results.

Massage FAQs

Q: What is a Swedish massage?

A: A Swedish massage releases your body from worry and tension, leaving you with a refreshed, relaxed feeling.

Q: What is a deep tissue massage?

A: Deep tissue massage includes the manipulation of superficial layers of muscle and connective tissue to enhance your body’s function and promote relaxation and well-being. This is great for targeting muscular knots and releasing chronic muscle tension.

Q: What should I expect during my first massage?

A: Prior to your first massage st Three Grains Salt and Body Spa, you will be asked to complete a health history form to determine if massage is appropriate for you. This form takes only a few minutes to complete. We do ask that you arrive a few minutes prior to your appointment time on your first massage visit so that you can complete this form without taking away from your first massage. Next, you’ll be escorted to a private room, where your masseuse will ask you a few questions about the type of massage you want so that the masseuse can customize your experience to your needs and liking. The masseuse will then leave the room so that you can undress. A few minutes later, your masseuse will return to begin your massage.

Q: Do I have to be completely undressed?

A: Customers may undress to your comfort level. Clean linens are provided so that you are adequately covered during your massage.

Q: Should I eat before the massage?

A: We recommend not eating a heavy meal one hour before and one after the session.

Manicure and Pedicure FAQ

Q: I forgot my sandals. Can I still get a pedicure?

A: Yes, we provide a one-time use sandal that you can wear out of our nail spa.

Q: If my hand is injured, can I still get a manicure?

A: If you have a wound, joint or muscle strain, a rash or broken skin, you are well advised to wait until you’ve recovered.

Q: Can I receive a manicure or pedicure if I have a fingernail fungus?

A: No. For your protection and ours, we recommend that you wait to receive your manicure until after the fungus as been treated.

Q: I have thin brittle nails. What should I do?

A: For immediate results, we suggest a set of nail sculpture. For natural alternatives, you should apply a nail-hardening product to your nails. There are some good nail hardeners for the treatment of soft, peeling, bitten, weak, thin or brittle nails. You may also ask your doctor if you need to take calcium diet supplements.

Q: What should I do to prevent the polish from early chipping?

A: Find a good top coat and apply one thin coat every two or three days. Don’t forget the front edges of the nails. We also carry a very good topcoat that dries quickly.

Waxing FAQs

Q: How long or short should my hair be for body waxing?

A: The hair should be at least 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch for best results. If you have coarse hair, it should be closer to 1/2-inch for the first few waxes. Once the hair becomes finer, it can be waxed at a shorter length. If your hair is longer, we recommend shaving the area and booking your waxing appointment for two to three weeks later. It may take up to three waxing treatments to achieve smooth skin due to the fact that hair grows in stages and all of your hair is never at the same stage. It is very important to avoid shaving between waxing appointments, as this will interrupt the process and stimulate the hair growth again.

Q: What are the benefits of waxing?

A: Waxing reduces hair growth when performed every two to four weeks. While shaving crops the hair at the skin’s surface, waxing pulls the hair out at the root so the hair grows back softer, finer and thinner. The more you wax, the less hair grows back.

Q: How do I prevent ingrown hairs?

  • use of exfoliating products (Alpha-Hydroxy Acid/AHA products, loofahs, scrubs, etc.)

  • direct sun exposure and tanning beds

  • creams with fragrance or ingredients that are known to irritate skin

  • deodorant because it irritates the skin and clogs open follicles

  • wearing tight clothing, which can result in irritation and inflammation

  • excessive heat from hot tubs and saunas. Warm showers are okay.

  • exercise, if it causes chaffing or excessive sweating

  • touching the freshly waxed area

Additionally, we recommend you apply our Ingrown Hair Serum daily to prevent ingrown hairs, bumps and breakouts.

Q: Is there anything I should do before my waxing appointment?

Yes.

  • Refrain from taking a shower or bath immediately before the treatment. Soaking the hair will soften it, allowing it to break more easily and making waxing less effective.

  • Make sure the hair is the appropriate length for waxing. See the above section on “how long or short should my hair be for waxing?”

  • Make sure that the area(s) to be waxed are clean.

  • There are certain medications and products that should not be taken or used if you plan to have a waxing treatment soon. Topical exfoliants used on the area to be waxed such as Retin-A, Renova, and hydroquinone, oral acne medications such as Accutane, blood-thinning medications and topical/oral cortisone make the skin more sensitive and increase the likelihood of irritation and other complications. Please check with your doctor if you are unsure if you should be waxed while using a medication.

Micro-needling FAQs

Q: What is Micro-Needling?

For skin micro-needling, we use an electric skin needling device made especially for this purpose. The device is a pen shaped studded with 12 very fine needles. It is a medical device used in micro needling to break down old scar tissue and to stimulate skin cells to proliferate. This cell multiplication results in the formation of new tissue layers of elastin and collagen fibers as well as in new capillaries for an improved blood supply.

Q: What conditions can be treated or improved with Micro-Needling?

  • Mild to moderate acne scarring; any new or old scars

  • Fine lines and wrinkles;

  • Loose, lax skin;

  • Skin texture and pore size

  • Stretch marks/Cellulite

Q: How does  Micro-Needling work?

The device slides along the skin, penetrating the upper layers of the skin to a depth of up to 2mm to create numerous tiny needle wounds. The procedure prompts the body to respond through the creation of new collagen and elastin fibers. In response to the stimulus, the skin plumps and thickens, reducing the appearance of scars, and fine lines and wrinkles.

Q: What does the procedure involve?

The skin is cleaned and numbing cream may be applied to lessen discomfort. For better results we use a collagen-stimulating product like Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin-C serum or skin lightener for pigmentation during the procedure. A small handheld pen like device with a sterile, disposable tip with 12 tiny needles is then used to pierce the skin. Our needling pen’s multi-speed and adjustable needle depth allow needles to pierce the skin’s layer at 90 degrees and increase the absorption of products. After the treatment, soothing Vitamin-C serum or Hyaluronic acid are used to hydrate, heal and protect the skin.

Q: What will I look like after the treatment?

Most people will experience redness and mild swelling in a similar way as mild sunburn for 24-48 hours and there may be minimal pin-point bleeding and/or bruising. Within a week or two, you will notice that your skin is smoother and more radiant looking but the full effects won’t be seen until a few months later.

Q: What is the down time after Micro-Needling treatment?

The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish that may last for 12 to 48 hours. In order to reduce visible redness, we recommend hyaluronic acid after the procedure, and to protect the skin with zinc based sunblock. The use of mineral makeup is recommended after procedure.

Q: What are the benefits of Micro-Needling?

  • Dramatically increases the effectiveness and penetration of active ingredients in topical preparation

  • Stimulates circulation and collagen production

  • Medical grade titanium needles makes it non-allergenic to human tissue

  • Cost effective compared to other resurfacing procedures

  • Can be performed on all skin types, including ethnic skin

  • It can be used on all areas of the scalp, face, body including fragile skin like around eyes, mouth and neck

Q: What effects does the  Micro-Needling have on the skin?

  • improves skin texture and reduces the appearance of wrinkles

  • stimulates tissue regeneration

  • disfiguring scars, especially acne scars can be improved as new collagen fibers elevate the depressed scar tissue with the periphery skin

  • pore size reduction

  • improves the appearance of stretch marks

Q: Is Medical Micro-Needling painful?

Prior to the treatment, numbing cream can be applied to minimize pain that is felt during the procedure.

Q: Can Micro-Needling be performed on any skin color?

Medical Micro-needling is safe to use on all skin types and all skin colors. There is no risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

Q: How many treatments do I need and how often can  Micro Micro-Needling procedures be repeated?

Micro-needling can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks until you achieve the desired results. For collagen induction we recommend to start with 3 treatments, but with a minimum separation time of 4 to 6 weeks between treatments. For scar reduction an average of 3 to 6 treatments are recommended. The number of treatments required will depend on how each individual responds to the treatments, and the extent of the damage at the beginning Micro-needling can be used on all skin parts of the body (neck, décolleté, arms, legs, etc). Most people will begin to see results after the very first appointment.

Q: What should I avoid on my skin after treatment?

To ensure the right healing environment, for 2-3 days do not use AHA’s (glycolic Acid), retinol, acidic or “active” ingredients. Exposure to sun should also be avoided or zinc based sunblock should be used.

Q: What are the side effects of the  Micro-Needling procedure?

There are virtually no negative side effects, and none have ever been reported in over 150,000 procedures performed worldwide.

Q: Am I a candidate for the Micro- Needling?

Medical micro-needling can be safely performed on all skin types and all skin colors. As the epidermis and in particular, melanocytes in the basal area are left intact. There is minimal risk of pigment change or post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation. Skin micro-needling can treat sensitive and fragile areas that are difficult to treat with other procedures. These areas include the eyes, the neck and the back of the hands.

However, it is not suitable for patients who:

  • Have a used Accutane (isotretinoin) within the last three months

  • Have open wounds, cuts or abrasions on the skin

  • Have had radiation treatment to the skin within the last year

  • Have any kind of current skin infection, condition, herpes simplex in the area to be treated

  • Are pregnant or breast feeding

  • Have any history of keloid or hypertrophic scars or poor wound healing

Baby Foot Q&As

Q:Does it work better if I pre-soak my feet?

Pre-soaking your feet will help expedite the peeling process.

Q:What happens if I wear booties more than an hour?

In most cases the skin is fine due to the natural extracts in Baby Foot, however, you may have some redness.

Q:Can I rinse with water or wipe off with a moist towel instead of washing my feet?

Yes, you may wipe the extracts off with a moist towel.

Q:Does it hurt or become tender when I begin to peel?

No. The dead skin will peel naturally.

Q:How soon can i do another treatment?

You may do another treatment as soon as two weeks after your initial treatment, then repeat every one to two months.

Q:I like having pedicures, so why would I use Baby Foot?

Baby Foot is an additional treatment for your feet. We still love to have our toes polished and feet massaged! Pedicures do not remove the dead layers of skin and friction caused by scraping the dead skin cells created a vicious spiral of accumulating more dead skin cells.

Q:Should I remove my nail polish before using the product?

A high end polish or shellac is not usually affected.

Q:Can I use this product on my hands?

Yes, but the peeling will be on the palms of the hands.

Q:Does the gel sting if I have foot fungus?

For feet in normal condition, no. I you have foot fungus, Baby Foot has helped improve it, but you might experience some stinging depending on the condition of your feet. I you have any open cuts, do not use.
